What to See in the Gardens

The Amphitheater & Lower Gardens

Just beyond the Pitti Palace, the grand Amphitheater forms the heart of the gardens. An Egyptian obelisk stands at its center. Nearby, you'll find the Fountain of the Artichoke and the incredible Buontalenti Grotto, a Mannerist cave of wonders that is a must-see for every visitor.

The Viottolone & Isolotto

The Viottolone is a grand, steep avenue lined with cypress trees and statues, creating a stunning visual axis. It leads down to the Isolotto, a large oval pond with an island at its center, home to Giambologna's magnificent Fountain of the Ocean, surrounded by statues of the Nile, Ganges, and Euphrates rivers.

The Upper Gardens & Views

Climb towards the Forte di Belvedere to find the Knight's Garden (Giardino del Cavaliere) and the Porcelain Museum. From this higher elevation, you are rewarded with some of the most breathtaking panoramic views of Florence, including the Duomo and Palazzo Vecchio, framed by ancient trees.

How to Get There

The Boboli Gardens are located in the Oltrarno district, on the south side of the Arno River. The main entrance is at Piazza de' Pitti, 1, 50125 Firenze FI, Italy, through the Pitti Palace.

From the city center, it's a pleasant 15-20 minute walk, crossing the iconic Ponte Vecchio. Several city buses also stop near the palace. Once you arrive, if you have a pre-booked ticket, you can proceed directly to the entrance to have your ticket scanned, bypassing the ticket office queue.

Are there multiple entrances?
Yes, there are four entrances: the main one at Pitti Palace, and others at Forte di Belvedere, Via Romana (Annalena entrance), and Porta Romana. The Pitti Palace entrance is the most common and most accessible.
